Bringing life back to Sannergata

The building in Sannergata 2 is almost unrecognizable. Now the doors have been opened to the city, and the staff restaurant, food and community make the building part of the neighborhood again.

The in-house restaurant, run by De Tre Stuer, is highlighted as the building's finest room, designed to be used for more than just lunch.

- The starting point was a building that turned its back on the city. The whole project has been about opening it up and making it more extroverted and accessible," says interior architect Cathrine Nordhus of Krohn Ark, who has been responsible for all the interior design.

Through a total reconstruction, the building has been stripped down to the supporting structure of steel and concrete, a sustainable way of reusing existing materials.

Now the first floors are filled with active functions such as shops, restaurants and meeting places, while the office floors stretch from levels 4 to 8.

The power shop helps to create extra life and activity on the first floor of the building. Ragde Eiendom has its own head office on the top floor, and property manager Harald Thoresen describes the project as a holistic boost:

- We wanted to give something back to the city and create a building that is alive all day, not just during working hours.

– The building's finest

Sannergata was developed with a clear strategy: to get people back to the office by offering more than just workplaces.

Here you will find, among other things, a fitness center of almost 500 square meters, great changing rooms, physiotherapy services and as many as 396 bicycle parking spaces with bicycle service. The common areas are designed with a "hotel approach", where the rooms can be used flexibly for work, meetings and events.

- The restaurant is the building's finest room. It would not be sustainable to use it only two hours a day as a canteen. Here, the rooms can be transformed and used in many ways, says Nordhus.

The development does not stop here:

  • Godt Brød has opened on the corner
  • The restaurant Rodeo opens its doors on February 26
  • Norsk Helsenett (NHN) has moved in with all employees
  • Plan 2 has been leased to it.no, which will move in on July 1
  • The co-working concept The Box is doing so well that it is now expanding with a new location that will be completed on June 1
  • The bicycle shop Elife will take over the premises on February 10 and open after Easter
  • The toy shop Ringo will take over the retail premises next to Elife on July 1.
