In 2024, 4Service bought microgreens from Spiring, which in practice has contributed to around 733 working hours, equivalent to a 20 percent position over time.

That's a calculation that shows how much significance can actually lie in small, weekly orders.

- It doesn't take much from each individual canteen before it becomes extensive enough to mean something, both for the individual and for society, says André Sjørup Anker from Spiring.

He points out that this type of work can save the welfare society large sums of money, while at the same time providing better health, stronger relationships and a fresh start.

Making a difference

Spiring collaborates with the Blue Cross and recruits people who have previously been outside working life, partly due to substance abuse.

The aim is to create a safe environment, routines and mastery, and not least a new network that makes it easier to stay on the right track

- Many people have never had a job before. Getting a paycheck from an AS means more than you might realize, says Anker.

Their work is about lifting in groups, and about preventing relapse by building something stable and meaningful around people who really need it.

Social sustainability

Spiring is now looking forward to an exciting 2026, when they will join forces with Lille Blad, a major player in year-round hydroponic production. For customers, it means more products to choose from, and for Spiring, it means a clearer focus:

- We believe 2026 can be the year where we really elevate social sustainability, while delivering high quality products.

Spiring is an example of how food can be more than food.

It can be a focal point, a way back to work, and a way to create real change, one box of microgreens at a time.
